What makes a good cover letter

One page, in German, three to five short paragraphs.
A new letter for each company: name one or two facts from the listing.
Only what is true. You should be able to explain every sentence in the interview.
If you live abroad: one sentence that you apply for the visa once you have a contract.
Layout as German letters (DIN 5008): sender, recipient, date, subject in bold, salutation.
